Unemployment rate holds steady in March

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Nevada's

unemployment rate remained unchanged in March. The state's jobless rate reached 8.5 percent last month. That matches February's unemployment rate, but fell from 10.2 percent the previous year.

Nevada's jobless rate in March exceeded the national rate of 6.7 percent, but the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation says

the state's job base has grown at a faster pace than the rest of the country's during the past 20 months.

Nevada's job base in March grew 3.8 percent from last year.

“Nevada’s labor force has been trending up in 2014,” said NDETR Chief Economist Bill Anderson in a statement.

“It has grown by 16,100 since December, and the year-over-year reading in March was up 2,700 from 2013, the first yearly increase since April 2011. Nevada continues to show indication that its economy is moving in the right direction.”

Employment numbers for the Las Vegas metropolitan area were unavailable.
