Nevada Casino Revenue Up 17 Percent in July

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- State officials say Nevada casino revenue jumped 17 percent in July compared with the same time last year, thanks to big gains in Las Vegas.

The state gaming control board reports Monday that Nevada casinos brought in just over $1 billion in July. That's up from $860 million in July 2011.

Las Vegas Strip revenues of $597 million were up almost 28 percent year-over-year, while downtown Las Vegas' $41 million haul was up more than 16 percent.

Northern Nevada didn't fare as well in July. Reno casinos brought in $46 million, which was down more than 9 percent.

South Lake Tahoe revenue was flat at about $30 million.

The state collected almost $68 million in taxes on the winnings, which is up more than 40 percent compared with last year.
