New buffet brings 500 menu items to Caesars Palace
Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 | 6 p.m.
There weren't any fireworks or huge crowds, but those who showed up for the opening of the newBacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace did get the first tastes of 500 menu items.
The doors to the $17 million buffet opened at 7 a.m. today.
"This wasn't like a casino opening, where everyone is town shows up when the doors open," said Gabby Perez, general manager. "This was more of a soft opening. I counted about 20 people."
The word had spread by lunchtime, and the line was snaking through the ropes at the entry like a ride at Disneyland, with people waiting about 25 minutes to be the first to try the 500 items in nine themed kitchens, from Asian and American to Italian cuisines. Traffic was steady throughout the lunch hour at the 25,000-square-foot buffet that seats 600.
The most popular dishes?
"Sushi, pizza, barbecue and desserts," said Scott Green, executive chef.
The buffet is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Breakfast is $19.99 and lunch $24.99. Dinner is $34.99 weekdays and $39.99 on weekends, or less than the price of an entree at some of the Strip's higher-end restaurants. Caesars Total Rewards card members get a $3 discount.
For an extra $10, all-you-can-eat enthusiasts can add the Bacchanal to the Buffet of Buffets program -- which offers other seven buffets in 24 hours for $44.99.
