Las Vegas sets record for warmest winter

While the Midwest and East Coast remain buried in snow and ice, the Las Vegas Valley coasted through its warmest winter ever.
The mild winter was marked by a record-setting winter drought that lasted 57 days, record-high temperatures and only one cold snap.
The average temperature between Dec. 1 and Feb. 28 was 52.3 degrees, which broke the old record for the warmest winter of 52 degrees set in 1980-81, National Weather Service meteorologist Reid Wolcott said.
The warmest day reached 81 degrees on Feb. 16, while the coldest was 26 degrees on Dec. 10.
With summer on the way, the National Weather Service’s three-month outlook for June to August is for warmer-than-normal temperatures.
