美國國防部為因應國防預算刪減及戰略調整，加上成功的反恐經驗，打算擴增無人機隊編製，並在全球增加特種軍力部署。
華爾街日報（TheWallStreetJournal）引述美國國防部官員的說法指出，根據國防部的預算檔案，國防部要求在未來幾年內增加30%的無人機隊。
此外，美軍也將在全球增加部署特種部隊，以利和當地盟友合作並執行任務。
去年成功獵殺恐怖組織首腦賓拉登的美國海豹特種部隊25日發動夜襲，闖入索馬利亞南部的海盜巢穴，成功救出2名被綁架的西方人質，就是最好的見證。
官員表示，雖然美軍打算削減至少八個旅的軍力，不過，美軍近年內將持續增加無人機數量和特種部隊部署。
以陸戰隊為例，陸戰隊員將使用位於澳洲達爾文（Darwin）的新基地，做為前進東南亞的跳板。
官員表示，國防部計劃在2015年前把特種部隊軍力從6萬3750人增加到7萬人。
美國空軍目前有61個無人戰機空中巡邏隊，官員表示，國防部打算增加無人機數量，以輕鬆達到運作65個無人戰機空中巡邏隊的規模，甚至可以暫時增至85個無人戰機空中巡邏隊。

(IATA: INS, ICAO: KINS, FAA LID: INS), formerly known as Indian Springs Air Force Auxiliary Field, is a United States Air Force base located one mile (2 km) north of the central business district of Indian Springs, in Clark County, Nevada, United States. It is about 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Las Vegas and 45 miles (72 km) northwest of Nellis Air Force Base. It is named in honor of General Wilbur L. “Bill” Creech, known as the "Father of the Thunderbirds".
The host unit is the 432d Wing, which has six operational squadrons, one maintenance squadron, and MQ-9 Reapers and MQ-1 Predators.
Along with being the aerial demonstration training site for the Thunderbirds, the base plays a major role in the ongoing War on Terror. The base is home to the MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle which is used regularly in Afghanistan and Iraq. The base is also home to the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Battlelab.
